Julia Alcamo

(she/her)
Director

I am a Grierson-award-winning documentary director driven by a deep desire to understand my fellow humans, to share unheard perspectives and not least, to entertain. I have directed, produced and shot short films for Channel 4, Al Jazeera, and supported by the Doc Society Made of Truth fund. I have also directed and produced branded documentaries for National Geographic, Gay Times, UNICEF, Tate Galleries and Bupa.

My films have been nominated and screened at international film festivals, including LFF, Doc NYC, Iris Prize, Mardi Gras Film Festival in Australia, and Kashish Pride Film Festival in India. Telling the story of queer legends encountering homophobia in old age, Ted & Noel won the Iris Audience Award 2023 and won the Grierson short documentary award in 2024.

My background is working as a series producer in television, including producing 10-part series for Sky History and BBC World.
