Kannan Arunasalam
Kannan Arunasalam is a British-Tamil artist and filmmaker working across documentary film, installation, and sound. His practice explores memory, resistance, and the legacies of conflict and colonialism, often grounded in long-term research with communities whose narratives have been marginalised or erased. ‘The Tent’ (2019) was presented in his solo exhibition at Yorkshire Contemporary. ‘Sri Lanka’s Rebel Wife’ (2021) premiered at the Frontline Club in London and was shortlisted for best documentary at the DIG Investigative Film Awards. Kannan recently completed two feature documentaries, ‘Republic of Amnesia’ (2025, UK/Sri Lanka) which examines Sri Lanka’s Aragalaya protest movement, and ‘Possible Landscapes’ (2025, US), which recently premiered at BlackStar 2025 and explores intergenerational Caribbean environmental experience.
