Marie Trestrail

Director, Film Programmer

Marie Trestrail is a creative documentary filmmaker. Graduating from the Edinburgh College of Art with an MA in Film Directing, Marie specializes in abstract and creative reuse of archive, with a particular interest in themes concerning land, place, culture, heritage, and language. Her dissertation film, ‘We Can Still Hear You’, premiered at Bolton International Film Festival, and won the Personal Narrative Award at the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival. In 2024, she was shortlisted in the Scottish Documentary Institute’s Bridging the Gap program for her film, Behind Us is the Mountain. She completed her second film, ‘Swansong’, in collaboration with Sheffield DocFest & Reuters Screenocean; and is currently in development on two films: ‘Woodlands Avenue’ (with funding from Leitrim Council, Ireland), and ‘Uair a Bha Siud: Ursgael Na Feannag’ (with funding from Glasgow Life’s ‘Guir!’).

Marie also works as a festival programmer, and art department assistant.
