Essential information for voting in the DFC Election

The DFC election is being managed by the UK-based election agency, Mi-Voice, which was suggested to us by Co-operatives UK and which has run elections on behalf of Directors UK, Manchester University and Wrexham AFC, among others.

On 13th May, all registered Members of the DFC will be emailed a unique voter code with a link to the online voting site. The email will be issued from [email protected], so please add this email to your safe senders list to ensure you receive your email.

The voting platform is very intuitive and contains clear instructions on how to make and amend your choices, and how to cast your vote once you are happy with your selection. However, if you encounter any technical problems or need any assistance with casting your ballot, the Mi-Voice support team are on hand to help. You can reach them via email at [email protected] or by calling (0)23 8076 3987.

Voting closes on 31st May, with the results announced on 3rd June. We’ll be able to welcome the new board in person at Sheffield DocFest (about which more below). Thanks again to all our candidates for putting themselves forward for election, and thank you to the rest of our Members for participating in this process.

The Price of Passion, DocuMentality Report Launch

The DFC is a proud supporter via our Mental Health committee of the Documentality project. The project is releasing its comprehensive research report on the state of mental health in the documentary filmmaking community on Friday 17th May. Entitled The Price of Passion: How Our Love for Documentary Filmmaking Impacts Our Mental Health, the report reflects the group findings from a series of focus groups with filmmakers from the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Canada and additional sessions with funders. The report delves into the profound impact of the documentary film industry on filmmakers, examining broader cultural aspects, working conditions, and personal consequences associated with this dynamic field, as well as participant suggestions on how to create a brighter future.

The report will be launched on Zoom at a special virtual event open to filmmakers, industry, mental health professionals, and press. The launch will take place at 5-6.30pm GMT on Friday 17th May. Please register for your place below.
