Recruiting now for our first CEO

We’re beyond excited to announce that we are today advertising for the DFC’s first ever Chief Executive Officer.

Since we launched at Sheffield DocFest in June 2023, we’ve built an organisation of nearly 1000 professionals from across the UK’s documentary sector. We’ve democratically elected our first board of trustees and established the relationships we need with government, BFI and other screen sector bodies to build a documentary industry fit for the future. With these foundations in place, we’re ready to appoint our first CEO to lead the DFC into the next phase of its development.

We’re looking for a respected professional – or pair of professionals – from the documentary industry with an established reputation and a passion for leadership and community-building. As a figurehead of the UK’s nonfiction industry, you will represent our sector at the highest levels in government, industry and the media and take a leading role in policy development, advocating for the vital social, cultural and economic role documentary plays in Britain and beyond.

All the information prospective candidates need to apply can be found in our Candidate Information Pack. The deadline for applications is midnight on December 7, with interviews taking place early next year.

Please note that, as explained in the info pack, the role will initially be compensated with an honorarium rather than the salary it deserves. That will change, but we do not want to delay recruiting our first CEO any more than we already have. We cannot build a brighter future for documentary in the UK without a national organisation with a remit to do that work on behalf of the people it represents. The DFC is that organisation and together, we’re already making a difference. We’ve built our membership, we’ve elected our board and now we’re ready for our first CEO. We can’t wait to hear from you.
