The DFC Forum is now live!

Today marks an exciting milestone for the UK documentary community. The DFC Forum is officially LIVE and ready for you to explore and connect with other DFC members.

This digital ‘town hall’ now opens its doors, creating a space for clear and transparent communication among filmmakers and filmworkers like never before. Connect with fellow documentary makers and colleagues to discuss everything from tax credit advice and release strategies to navigating film festivals and arranging local meetups.

Many of you will remember the good old days of Twitter when the algorithm still showed you the content you wanted to see and it wasn’t being used to try and topple democracies around the world and radicalise the far right. It was a place where we could all connect online that was built for sharing projects, successes, failures, advice, questions, news, jokes, and it was particularly special for those of us who do a lot of solo working or don’t live in industry hub cities. And, for said reasons above, this is now needed more than ever.

It’s a very ambitious endeavour but we KNOW it has the potential to be an incredible online communications resource that we all really feel the absence of at the moment. And, best of all, it’s a platform owned by all of us, rather than a tech broligarch.

Unlike social media, productivity or comms platforms like Slack or WhatsApp, the DFC Forum is built using Discourse, a world-class open-source platform designed for meaningful, democratic communication. The Forum will serve as a permanent and constantly evolving knowledge hub created by and for the UK documentary community. It’s all ours!

Log in today and be part of the conversation that will shape the future of UK documentary filmmaking.

⭐ IMPORTANT: Access to the Forum requires paid DFC membership. If you are a Supporter or non-member, upgrade or join here (it’s only £12 or £24 per year!)

It’s really important that we showcase the size of the independent documentary community in the UK so please complete your profile as soon as possible – you will be in good company!
