We are delighted to kick-off 2026 by announcing that the UK Global Screen Fund (UKGSF) is consulting with doc producers on potential new funding instruments for documentaries to support development and production, and has commissioned the DFC to undertake the associated research.
For a long time, UK documentary producers have occupied a weak position in the international market because of the limited contribution they have been able to make when forming co-production partnerships. The UKGSF is currently considering this untapped potential and exploring mechanisms for further supporting the documentary sector. The fund is looking at both feature-length documentaries and TV singles and series, and the consultation consists of a survey and subsequent focus groups that will take place in early 2026.
If you’re a producer and would like to contribute to the research, you may have heard from us already. If not, and you would like to participate in the research, please complete the survey below:
Depending on the level of detail provided, the survey should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The first section asks for feedback on the current UKGSF minority co-production strand. The next two sections focus on feature docs and TV docs (singles and series) respectively. The final section focuses on your experience with international funding schemes and your suggestions for new funding instruments to support documentaries, particularly co-productions. The survey closes at midnight on Friday 30 January.
If you have any questions about the research, please get in touch at [email protected].
