We’re hiring a Membership and Communications Officer!

We’re hiring: DFC is seeking its first ever Membership and Communications Officer

Since the DFC launched in June 2023, nearly 1,000 from across the industry have joined the organisation. That is an extraordinary milestone to have reached in just three years, and as we continue to grow, we are committed to looking after our members to the absolute best of our ability. That’s why, as we embark on the long journey to move from an organisation run by volunteers to one run by a paid team, our first paid role will be a Membership and Communications Officer.

The members are the foundation of this organisation. As a co-operative, the DFC is owned and run by its members. But the members also provide the democratic remit and collective power needed for our policy and advocacy work and, like a union, our effectiveness is directly related to how many members we have.

Right now, this is initially just a one-day per week role – though we anticipate increasing that as our finances grow. But even one-day per week will massively increase our ability to serve and support our existing members, and to persuade those who haven’t yet to join us. And since there’s never been a national membership organisation for documentary in the UK, we don’t actually know where the ceiling is in terms of our membership – are you the right person to help us find it?

All the information you need to find out more and apply is available in the Candidate Information Pack. Please note that we are fully aware that the responsibilities outlined in the role description are well beyond what anyone could achieve in just one day – we’ll work with you to design a workload that is reasonable and which fits with your other commitments.

The deadline for applications is 23:59 BST on Thursday 1 October 2026. Please spread the word!

It looks like you haven’t created a profile in our Directory yet.

The Directory lists everyone involved in the DFC and also functions as a talent database for our sector, making it easier to find and work with people from across the UK and from all kinds of backgrounds. It’s really important that we showcase the size of the independent documentary community in the UK so please complete your profile as soon as possible – you will be in good company!
