Professor

Mandy Rose is Professor of Documentary & Digital Cultures at UWE Bristol. Her research looks at immersive and interactive documentary (i-Docs) – aesthetics, ethics, audiences, co-creative practices – and at the potential of documentary to contribute to post-carbon futures. Mandy’s background is in media production and distribution, in the London Independent sector in the 1980s, then as a producer/director in documentary and factual television. In the mid-nineties, she co-founded and series-produced the ground-breaking BBC 2 project Video Nation. Since then, she has engaged with the participatory, interactive and immersive potentials of digital nonfiction media as a producer and since 2009 as a researcher.

Mandy is co-convenor of the i-Docs group and Symposium, and co-editor of i-docs: the evolving practices of interactive documentary (Wallflower, 2017).

She is a member of the Pervasive Media Studio Executive Board and a Member- Director of the not-for-profit investigative newspaper Bristol Cable.
