Austen is a Scottish BAFTA winning documentary filmmaker with a fascination for people and an urge to tell stories that reveal new perspectives, challenge preception and encourage conversation. He is co-founder of Melt the Fly where he has produced, co-directed and shot films supported by the BBC, Creative Scotland and the Scottish Documentary institute. His debut feature, Long Live My Happy Head premiered at BFI Flare in 2022, and screened at Thessaloniki Doc Fest, Doc Edge and Frameline – among others. In 2021 his film Harmonic Spectrum won the Scottish BAFTA for Short Film & Animation. Austen is currently in Aotearoa New Zealand where he is exploring new ideas and collaborations in the southern hemisphere.
