Howard Berry
I am a filmmaker and lecturer specialising in film heritage and production histories. In 2024 my debut feature, “HER NAME WAS MOVIOLA”, made in partnership with Walter Murch, premiered at Sheffield DocFest. I was nominated by the ACE for the Eddie Award for Best Feature Documentary Editing 2025, and won the RTS Programme Award for Best Craft Editing at the RTS East Awards 2025.
My work has been about the history and producti0n methodologies at the studios of Borehamwood and Elstree, which forms part of a project called THE ELSTREE PROJECT. I also work with the Kubrick estate, on numerous projects. My oral history of The Shining — “STAIRCASES TO NOWHERE” — was described by the BFI as “like being on set with Stanley Kubrick”, and will be distributed in 2026.
I lead Post-Graduate Film Production degrees at the University of Hertfordshire, where I have been working since 2005.
