Mélanie Gouby is a French journalist and documentary filmmaker whose work explores the systemic root causes underpinning violent conflict, inequality, and environmental destruction. Her TV and film work has covered the impact of extractive industries on local communities, conservation challenges in rapidly changing societies, and scientific efforts to illuminate the ecosystems of the Congo Basin. Her work has appeared on National Geographic, Arte, NBC, and Vice, among others. She led the investigation into a British oil company’s illegal activities in the Virunga National Park for the Oscar-nominated documentary Virunga (Netflix), winner of a Peabody and duPont-Columbia Award for outstanding journalism, as well as a One World Media award for Corruption Reporting. In 2019, Mélanie was a nominee for the inaugural Mary Chirwa Award for Courageous Leadership.
