Tomoko Hirasawa is a Japanese editor based between the UK, Spain and Japan. Her film credits include the award-winning short Mitaka Sumo School (2017) and feature documentary Bound (2021). She also assisted on a feature drama Doors (2021). She has edited films on a wide range of themes from climate crisis, racism, LGBTQIA+ to abolition of nuclear weapons.
She first discovered her passion for editing VJ-ing in Tokyo nightclubs while studying an BA Social Science (2007). During this period, she made her first documentary film on a human resource centre for the elderly in Tokyo. Her films were screened at art exhibitions such as Spiral Independent Creators Festival (2004). To pursue film editing, she moved to the UK to study at Arts University of Bournemouth (2008). Since then, she worked on numerous projects including theatrical release and independent short films.
