Zan is a joyful storyteller with a string of authored shorts and some broadcast hours behind her as a director and some writing / journalism. She is also a TV editor, a participatory filmmaker and teacher. Many of her film projects are self-generated and she has often fundraised and produced them, where possible employing and upskilling others in the process. She is interested in the intersection of people and power, likes to share authorship with her subjects and considers documentary storytelling (done right) a form of empowerment. She has made many films about mental health and young people, including an award-winning schools project with Reprezent Radio (featuring Munya Chawawa) and has worked extensively with young people internationally and in the UK.
